“My Children Walk In Truth” lyrics

My Children Walk in Truth

Johnny Cash (“Personal File” album)

(corrected 1/8/06 Thanks!)

I prayed to feel more joy in my salvation

A selfish prayer I finally came to know

For the greatest joy while living comes to me when I am giving

Giving children bread of life and watch them grow

(CHORUS)

And my greatest joy is knowing that my children walk in truth

And that they are giving you Lord of their fire and strength of youth

I’ve found the greatest joy of my salvation

Is knowing that my children walk in truth

Its hard to feed someone else when your hungry

And don’t try to teach when you don’t understand

No one will follow you if you don’t live it each day through

And a frightened child won’t hold a trembling hand

(REPEAT CHORUS)

    The chorus actually is:
And my greatest joy is knowing that my children walk in truth
And that they are giving you Lord of their fire and strength of YOUTH
I’ve found the greatest joy OF my salvation
Is knowing that my children walk in truth

Many years ago, I visited a library in Tampa and found this Johnny Cash gospel album. This beautiful, simple prayer of a song was on that album. I’m now seeking to find a copy of the song, and perhaps work up a version to sing at my church.

Look for the CD titled “Personal File” on Columbia records. It’s also available on Itunes.

Why not include the chords in the lyrics to enable playing with guitar?
    I certainly would appriciate that.
