mourning the loss of Rami Ayyad

Christianity Today reports on the slaying of Gaza’s only Christian bookstore owner Rami Ayyad. The report takes us beyond speculations of Muslim vs. Christian to the real reality on the ground in Palestine. Let’s pray for Rami’s family and that God would use this tragic death to bring Muslims and Christians in Gaza together in new relationships.

See Philip Rizk’s memories of Rami on his blog here.

I have searched for comment from Christians on this terrible tragedy and only Nicoila has made a comment on this site. The Bible Society has elsewhere commented on this matter and the sadness of Rami’s death but at the same time called for a peaceful response to a violent action. Nobody should condone violence but from what I am told Palestinian Christians have lived side by side with Muslims in peace for centuries, it is only hard-line fundamentalists who wish to divide who carry out these actions. Sadly many western Christians are fixated with Israel and have no idea of what it is to be a Palestinian maybe that is why there are no posts to this, except for one from somebody who does understand. We continue to pray for Rami’s widow and children and all Palestinian Christians and indeed all those seeking to live in peace.

i just have been reading about this. do they still not know who killed rami. i read that he was harrassed by muslims who said he was proseletizing for christianity, and then muslims claimed he was killed by israel because no palestinian group claimed responsiblity?

the palestinian christians are very silent and I wonder if it is because the same dynamic with every minority in a muslim country – fear of violence?

james – what it looks like to me to me palestinian is to be completely unde the thumb of an arbitrary intolerant islamic religious military authority. i feel very sorry for most of those, particularly the non-muslims.

i believe israel has a right to exist, and muslims have a right not to be terrorized by their own governments whereever they live in the world.
