the future of books

With’s release of Kindle, the long awaited paper-like monitor that marries books to the internet, what do you all think of the book publishing future?

Also, along these lines, now that the quality of print-on-demand books rivals that of litho printing, is there really a need for print runs in the hundreds of thousands?

It’s obvious the book will be with us well into the future, especially since it’s easier than ever to get published, but I think the digital revolution offers the opportunity for publishers to think twice about what we’re calling “product.” Now that Kindle and similar technologies are making ebooks more accessible, maybe the world won’t need quite as many trees to die in vain for that new Jesus Your Way/Burn Fat Quick title.
